The 10th Anniversary of our prestigious annual Professor David Hall Memorial Lecture 2009 took place on Tuesday 9th June 2009 at The Royal Society. Three speakers pre-eminent in their fields gave talks on the next thirty to forty years in relation to the impact of climate change on civil rights.
In celebration of 10 years of the lecture, the event was filmed this year, and a DVD is now available to purchase from The Environmental Law Foundation. Price £4.99 plus P&P, total £5.50
Professor Bob Watson, Chief Scientific Adviser to DEFRA, gave an update on the most recent climate change science, and an overview of the key national and global challenges of climate change, including socially sustainable economic growth, poverty alleviation and food, water and energy security.
Dr Mary Archer, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, spoke about the impact of climate change on health, including the direct threats posed by changing patterns of disease and indirect threats to health due to the impact of extreme climatic events on sanitation and food production.
Patrick Holden, Director of the Soil Association, discussed concerns that globally unsustainable lifestyles of the past century are threatening societal collapse on a global scale, requiring immediate action to ensure sustainable food production and distribution.
